It's certainly better nowadays, but still needs a lot of work. The problem is that Linux doesn't have "well standardized" GUIs, that's why most tutorials are on terminal. click here, choose options, restart, ready. on windows you google “how to install xy” and get an easy to follow guide, understandable by everyone. I've never used CAD so can't tell anything.Įasy to follow tutorials. there seem to be a few workarounds for fusion360 and solidworks, but i never got them to work. super unstable, bad UI/ workflow and no real changes for 20 years. the only “real” existing CAD on linux is freecad, which absolutely sucks imo. What I don't understand is why they still make access so restricted.ītw I read somewhere that kde connect gained iphone support. I never had an iphone but I have a lot of old iPod so I understand you. much easier, less restricted and with better KDE connect. Software/gaming support: While both software and gaming support is very good nowadays thanks to valve/wine/ubuntu and the whole community but still sometimes I miss some apps/games because either there are no good alternatives or not at all. Also hidpi and multi-monitor aren’t always as good as on Windows. I’ve tried pulseeffects/easyeffects and various other pulseaudio hacks but without good results, my laptop sound is like my poor smartphone. Hardware support: I don’t have any big issues lately, all my PCs and peripherals work very good, sometimes there are some glitches here and there but my biggest gripe is the sound quality compared to the crystal clear sound of Windows. That software fortunately had both Windows and Linux releases and believe or not, it was much easier to run the Windows version via Wine than build it from source, because the deb package didn’t work and the source package needed countless of ancient dependencies. There were a few rare times that I needed to run some specific old software that wasn’t supported anymore. Not because is super shiny and usable or anything like that but let’s say it’s nostalgia mostly.īackward compatibility: This is probably the best thing that Windows do. Look and Feel: Yes, I miss it a little to be honest. I’m just wondering if you still miss something from Windows. I’ve been using Linux as my main OS since 2005 and Windows, only at work now, since 1995. public IP addresses or hostnames, account numbers, email addresses) before posting!ĭoes this sidebar need an addition or correction?
